Good news! Unichip Marine have expanded their reach & are now providing a petrol injector cleaning service.
After being heavily involved in the marine industry for some time, we've learned a few things. One's that your typical older-gen pleasure craft seriously lack power and diagnostic aids; the other is that your injectors really aren't having a good time.
Fortunately for you, we've got a solution for both of these problems. But, today, we're focusing on our latest endeavour - Unichip Marine's Petrol Injector Cleaning service.
What are injectors?
Your fuel injectors are solely responsible for injecting, or "spraying", the correct amount of fuel into the engine, in order to correctly create the optimal air to fuel ratio for engine combustion.
They're precision instruments; they must disperse fuel in the right 'spray pattern', angle and pressure in order to give your engine the fuel it's required to run on. Small and mighty - and often overlooked by the average boat enthusiast.
Why do I need to clean my boat's injectors?
Several reasons! Perhaps the most eminent reason why your injectors get clogged, or fail, is due to FOD (foreign object debris). Contaminants and debris can be transferred from your marina's fuel bowsers, paint flakes from the inside of jerry cans, or even corrosion from your fuel tank.
Your fuel filter will catch the majority of this debris. But, miniscule particles will still find their way to your injectors. Couple this with the rough seas churning up this debris into even smaller particles will result in build up on your injectors over time.
As we mentioned above, your injectors are precision instruments. Take care of them - get them serviced.
What are the symptoms of clogged boat injectors?
Symptoms may include one of, or a combination, of the following:
- A misfiring engine.
- Rough idling.
- An increase in fuel consumption.
- Difficulty starting your engine.
- Engine surging - rapid RPM needle movement.
How often should I clean my boat's injectors?
Experts suggest cleaning your injectors around 300 run time hours, or 3 - 4 years. Remember though, this will depend on external factors such as fuelling quality, too.
We estimate you'll probably spend 50 hours a season on your boat. You do the maths.
Why should I use Unichip Marine's petrol injector cleaning service?
Because we strongly do not recommend cleaning them yourself. There are several carb cleaning products on the market, that are great for continual maintenance.
We're not just saying that, either. Unichip Marine rigorously scrutinize & clean injectors. They'll be flow tested, stripped & then ultrasonically cleaned, before being flow tested again to ensure they're at their best. We'll also replace any small mechanical parts such as filters, O-rings & pintal caps if they're damaged or faulty - complimentary to our service!
I've heard enough; my injectors need some TLC. What's the deal?
We'll charge a very competitive £20 +VAT per injector, aim for a 3 - 5 working day turn around, with the option for you to either deliver them to our workshop OR send them via parcel / courier.
